Hi,

I just bought a ranch that has an old walk in game cooler built in the 50's. I'm trying to get the system running for hunting season. It has an old Copelmatic compressor outside the shed and a large evaporator and fan inside the meat room.

I got the compressor to run, but the evaporator does not get very cold.

The compressor will run for 50 seconds, shut off for 3 or 4 minutes and kick on again for 50 seconds.

I also hear the evaporator hissing as pressure builds and lowers.

I've located the relay and cut in/out control box, but have no idea what the settings should be.

Does it sound like the unit is low on refrigerant?
