There is a very loud humming noise behind the freezer compartment of myGE refrigerator.
Refrigerator and freezer continue to work properly, but when it is running, the humming noise is very loud. What is strange, though, is that if I slam the freezer door or give it a hard whack, the noise will stop. It will, however start up again, even if the door isn't opened or closed.
I thought that it could possibly be a defective gasket, because it doesn't seem logical that whacking the door would stop a fan noise. Noise did not start until about three months ago.

Most likely it's the evaporator fan motor. Open the freezer door quick and check the noise.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and http://www.appliancepartspros.c...for-ge-gts17jbserww.html
