I have a maytag mtb1956bew freezer/fridge that does not feeze and the fridge half isn't cold enough. I removed the back panel in the freezer to see if the evaporator was iced up but it wasn't. Only minor icing. I then pulled out the fridge to clean the dust from the compressor and condenser coils. Compressor runs but freezer is still not working.

Seems like a bad compressor/refrigerant leak.

I was thinking it was that or maybe a bad defrost timer. Could the timer be stuck?

I took out the defrost timer and found a burn mark on the #1 pin terminal. Any way to test it?

If the compressor is running constantly and you have very minimum frosting of the evaporator, you have a bad compressor/ refrigerant leak.

Sorry but I originally gave the wrong info. I had mistaken the evaporator fan noise for a working compressor. The compressor is not turning on.

If the compressor and condensing fan motor are not working, you probably have to replace the defrost timer, probably your problem based on the burn mark.

If the condensing fan is running, the condenser coils clean, and compressor is vibrating, you probably have a refrigerant leak that probably damaged the compressor.
