My Amana refer/bottom freezer model ABL2522FES has stopped cooling. I have had a problem with the auto defrost a couple times over the past few years and have just turned it off and manually defrosted it and it takes care of the problem. This time both freezer and refrigerator have stopped cooling completely but there is no ice buildup. After cleaning the coils (didn't help) I replaced the control board but this didn't solve the problem either. Condenser and fan seem to be working. Could it be the freezer thermostat? Any suggestions???

Note that I could only find the following in this series so it is for an ABL2522FES12.

Double check that the compressor is running.
You can usually hear it but you should also be able to feel it vibrating and it should be warm.

If it is on then you have a sealed system problem and this will be an expensive repair. You need a pro.

Check the unit's warranty often the sealed system has a longer warranty.

The compressor is running. Do you think it could be the defrost heater and/or defrost thermostat?
If it is a sealed system problem as you mentioned, what do you consider expensive?

If it was a defrost system you would get some cooling, just not enough.
This is because the evaporator coils are frosted/iced over to the point that the evaporator/freezer fan cannot pull air through them so it does not cool properly.
But you still have the iced up evaporator giving some cooling to the freezer.

Expensive is $500.00 and up.

It could be a freon lean. There is no use re-charging it till the leak is found and fixed. Also there is no guarantee that the leak can be found.

Also it may need a new compressor.
