freezer section on my GE side by side only getting to about 30 degrees. fridge side is plenty cold. condensor fan and compressor running. strange thing is water in door was'nt working. now after routine cleaning of condensor water works fine but freezer not getting cold enough. p.s. i do have some frost on back inside panel of freezer. any help appreciated.

Hi.

Remove the back panel in the freezer to expose the evaporator coils and check the frost pattern.
Does the coils frozen solid, partially, or there is an ice block in one corner?
The solid frozen coils would mean a defrost system failure. The rest of the symptoms would be related to the sealed system problems.

Post the results, so we can troubleshoot more.

i removed rear freezer panel and coils are completely frozen over

Hi.

Looks like there is the defrost system problem.Pull out the fridge, unplug it.
Locate the control board at the back of the fridge, behind the metal cover.
On the left side of the board locate the plug J7 pin 9(white) and above it 3 wire plug. Disconnect the plug and check continuity between the J7 - 9 and the wire marked Defrost. You should have at least 22ohm (assuming the evaporator is still frozen).
If the correct resistance is present - replace the control board

If not, check continuity of the defrost heater and defrost thermostat (ice cold during the test).
When replacing the control board replace the temperature sensor, mounted on the top of the evaporator coils.

After removing back panel in freezer and finding all coils completely frozen over. I tested control board and continuity seemed fine. So I "defrosted" coils with my heat gun. With frost all melted I found temp sensor just hanging along side coils. I reinstalled sensor, and with coils all frost free I plugged fridge back in. It took about 2 hours for freezer to get down to 15 degrees(was only getting to about 30) and it froze an ice pack. I'll monitor it for a few days and see if it just freezes back up. I really appreciate the help. I 'll let you know in a few days how it's working. thanks again.

Thought I would follow up on my freezer concern. So far so good freezer cooling like it's supposed too. Thanks for your help. BUT... now water dispenser on door not working. Is it possible it can freeze up? When freezer was'nt cooling down water worked fine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again.

Hi.

Locate the water line connector under the freezer door and disconnect it.Check if the water will come through the line when you press the lever.If it does then you do have a frozen line inside the freezer door.
The GE came up with a heater kit to correct this problem.
