GE side-by-side gets very hot inside
Model Number: PSIC....? Brand: GE Age: 5 - 10 years
I woke up one morning to find that my GE counter depth side-by-side refrigerator was really hot inside (temp. was 87 degrees). There was a smell of electrical burning and so I unplugged it.
The fridge is at a seasonal residence so I don't have the exact model number, but will work on getting it if needed. Begins with the letters PSIC and I know it is discontinued.
Upon inspection, the fan wasn't running very slow, but was quiet. I also removed the interior control board on the refrigerator side and found a faint black mark near one of the electrical connections (most likely the source of the smell).
I ordered a new motherboard (Model #WR55X10942) that was listed as the most up-to-date replacement to the existing part. I also ordered a new interior control panel (Model #WR55X10389).
I installed both parts and then turned the fridge back on. Fan was running more smoothly (not super fast/strong, but steady and quiet). However, upon inspecting the inside temp after allowing it to run for 5-10 minutes, it was evident that it was getting hotter and not colder. I unplugged the fridge and this is how it remains as I am stumped at what could be causing it to get hotter rather than colder inside and don't want to keep ordering parts at random hoping it will resolve the problem.
I really want to repair the fridge and get it working properly again because it was a pretty expensive model when purchased ($3000) and have only had it a little over 6 years.
Any help or advice on what may be possibly causing the problem is greatly appreciated. I believe the compressor may be still under warranty, but not 100% sure.
Thank you.
