Default Fridge Compartment of Brand New Frigidaire Gallery RandomlyToo Cold
Model Number: LGUB2642LF   Brand: Frigidaire   Age: Less than 1 year

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

I just bought a Frigidaire Gallery lgub2642lf. It was a refurbished model from Lowe's. The repair tag said the door seal was fixed to solve a problem of freezing water lines.

My fridge was plugged in on the morning of Sunday Feb. 24. It came to temperature (0 degrees and 38 degrees) and held fine. I put my food in and the temps returned to the programmed temps. After about 4 to 5 hours of being at the proper temp, the freezer temp rose to 11 degrees while the fridge stayed at 38. After about an hour the freezer temp dropped back to 0 degrees. A little while later (around 6 pm or so), the temperature in the refrigerator section started dropping over several hours and got as low as 27 degrees (the freezer side stayed at zero the entire time). When I went to bed at midnight the refrigerator compartment was at 30 degrees. When I woke up Monday morning it was back to 38 degrees. The temperature seemed to have held at 0 degrees and 38 degrees between Monday (2/25) morning and early Wednesday (2/27) morning. When I came downstairs at 7 am on Wednesday the refrigerator temp was at 30 degrees (freezer at 0).

I do not currently have the fridge hooked to a water line yet. I need to finish some minor renovations first. So I don't know if its getting cold enough to freeze the water lines.

I called frigidaire yesterday and the woman I spoke with said the rise in freezer temp is normal and part of a periodic defrost cycle. Is this true?

I'm more concerned with the seemingly random drops in refrigerator temperature. I'm worried that the original problem on the repair ticket (freezing water lines) wasn't due to a leaking door seal, but instead effected by dropping temps in the refrigerator compartment where temps will hold below 32 degrees for hours. I'd appreciate any insight into what might be causing this problem so I can determine if its a.) normal; b.) worth having it looked at; or c.) I should just return it to Lowe's and exchange it for a different fridge.
Thank you.

Hi Tricia,

The choice c.) is the best in such situation. The problem you described can be one of what we call "technicians nightmare". If you can return it then do it.

Gene.
