Model Number: 9706041470 Brand: Kenmore Age: 1 - 5 years
the fridge has been unplugged for about a year., motor is running but will not cool

By motor I assume you mean the compressor.
Remove the cover to the evaporator coils and see if there is any cooling on them at all. If there is cooling or some frost on them just where the freon enters them from the compressor, you probably have a low freon problem. If no cooling then you may be right out of freon. Also the compressor could be shot. Often any of the above is the end of the fridge. To get someone in to find the leak and recharge the unit is fairly expensive. Probably better off putting those dollars into a new unit.
