I have a the Whirlpool with the ice dispenser container on the door and it dispenses through the door. The dispenser freezes to the door where the metal on the dispenser aligns to the motor" metal gear mechanism. If I take the dispenser off daily, it is easy, but let it stay a couple of days, it is frozen solid and needs a hair dryer to get it free. It is not the chute but rather the actual metal to metal dispensing mechanism contact that is freezing. Any ideas.

I've had to replace the motors for the same issue. What I think is happening is the motor is wearing out and it's getting hotter as it runs, causing condensation that freezes. Replace the IDI motor and that should fix it.
