Model Number: PSC23NHMC Brand: GE Age: 5 - 10 years
The front water and ice selection touch panel display is dead. It started out a couple weeks ago when you would put a glass under the opening to get ice or water - the display would go dead( all indicator lights would go out) remove the glass wait a couple seconds and the lights would come back on. put the glass back in and you would the get ice or water - everything worked as normal. This sequence was repeatable for ice or water. Now the front display is completely dead. I cant find a manual to check and see if it is the main control unit in the lower back or the front display board behind the display panel. Any troubleshooting suggestions? I have a Digital multi-meter for checking voltages/connectons. Everything else works fine - makes ice - fridge and freezer funtions fine. For now I just take ice out of the ice bin.

Solved the problem myself - putting this out there incase anyone else has same issue.
From the Main board in the lower right back of the fridge - there is a connector J4 that feeds +12VDC and gnd to the display board behind the water/ice selection panel. The wires J4-1(black), J4-2(Red), J4-3(Blue) leave the main board and arrive at the Display bd only the red wire has changed to a white wire J4-1(black), J4-2(now white), J4-3(blue). There is supposed to be +12VDC on the white white wire J4-2 in ref to the black J4-1. Found that the +12VDC was missing. If you remove the vent panel below the front of the fridge - you will find on the left side below the frezzer door and 4 wire connecter - only 3 wires are there. The Black,Red,Blue from J4 on the main board change color here to Black,White,Blue and to to J4 on the Display board. The connector was very corroded and the white wire had broken completely off. Repaired the White wire back into the connector and now the display touch panel works great - ice -water - evrything works. |
