Default Freezer to cold
Model Number: 106.55606400   Brand: Kenmore   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
I have a Kenmore side by side. The freezer is getting down to -20 even though I have it set for 5. The fridge is colder too. After looking around I see that most likely I need to replace the thermistor. How many do I have and where are they located? I looked at the diagram and its hard to tell where it ats and how to get to it. I really appreciate this site.

Hello,

There is one thermistor in the freezer which is located on top of the evaporator behind the air ducts. You can ohm it out to see if it's good or not. The normal reading suppose to be 10K ohms @ 77°F and 32.5K ohms @ 32°F.

If the readings are correct, replace the control board.

- The thermistor Part number: 2188819

Part number: 2188819

- The control board Part number: 8201659

Part number: 8201659

Thank you so much. So basically I need to remove everything and the false wall?
Will the thermistor be obvious to me? Sorry to sound simple but I am simple
Trying to decide if this is somthing I can do myself or asking for a days worth of frustration.

OK, thanks. i need to replace mine. i undestand that we need to remove the contol panel (where you adjust the temp) in the front and the thermistor runs from the control panel to the air duct along the wall of the frig. does that sound right?

What I gathered is the Thermistor is on the freezer side towards the top behind the air duct panel near the evap coils. I had planned to empty everything out and remove the top panels and look for it. If it Ohms out ok than I will put it back and replace the control board on the top of the fridge side.

I need to do something. I have to Microwave the ice cream in order to eat it.

I was told that the thermistor was in the refrigerator section, not the freezer. It runs from the control panel to the air duct in the refrig section. Are you sure it's in the freezer section?

According to Gene in a previous post of this thread its in the freezer. That makes sense too because if it were in the fridge how would it know how cold the freezer is?
