I didn't realize the icemaker was bad. The last post was describing specifically what I discovered.

But... maybe those symptoms meant it's bad? I think I'll replace it regardless, since it's almost 8 years old. And probably that will cure the problem.

I just replaced the ice maker thinking it was bad. I had replaced it 2years ago and it worked fine. This time the replacement does not work. I noticed the red light blinks twice, delays about a second and blinks twice again. It never stops this cycle even with the flapper held back or switching it off. Not sure what this code means. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the problem with your refrigerator is a bad optics.

Swap the wires between the green and red solenoids on the water inlet valve. Depress the water dispenser release lever for a few seconds and check if there is some water in the ice maker.

If there is no water and the water line into the ice maker is not blocked, replace the water inlet valve.

how do i swap these wires? I'm not really sure how to test this?

You have to switch the wires between the two water valve solenoids.

What is the complete model number of the refrigerator?

What exactly is wrong with it?

Hey WhyWontThisWork,

On my Whirlpool GD5PHAXLQ01, like Gene suggested to swap the wires you can use two pieces of insulated wires to connect these plugs. Make sure they are not touching each other and any other metal parts.

I replaced the water inlet valve based on conversation with the person on chat. Still no ice. I tested the optics based on other threads; optics are good. So, is the ice maker that last item to replace or can you recommend something else?.......................

What exactly is wrong with your refrigerator?

What is the complete model number of the refrigerator?

Have you done any troubleshooting? If you have, how did you do it?
