I have been running the water without the front grill cartridge filter as the owners manual says you can as the filters are $40 and our tapwater is fine.
After a few weeks like this I noticed water pooling under the fridge. I didnt see any water in the filter compartment so I cleaned up the water and bought a filter and installes it just in case. After I installed the filter I went to run some water through to flush out the new filter as it instructs. The water wouldnt stop and I had to run out and shut off the house water. My wife says it stopped as I was running outside. Is this a bad inlet valve? I replaced it 4 years ago when I replaced the modular icemaker though I probably didnt need to.. Is the slow leak under the fridge a different problem? How does the filter housing work and how does it seal without a filter installed? Thanks.

1. Did you pinpoint the water leak?

2. Most likely yes.

3. Depends where it was leaking from.

4. There is a check valve inside the filter housing.
