I have a Kenmore refrigerator with top freezer. The temperature in freezer is 10 degrees F as measured in 11/2 qt of ice cream. The temperature in the refrig compartment is 43 degrees as measured in 1/2 gal of milk. If milk is stored on the shelf the temperature is 45 degrees F. The Thermostat in the refrig. compartment is turned to max cold. There is no thermostat in the freezer compartment.
The milk which has been stored on the refrig shelf has been turning sour lately after 2or 3 days storage (the past 2 months or so.) I have checked with TraderJoe where I have been buying my milk. They have had no other complaints. On line information says that the minimum temperature should be 45 degrees; so this is the borderline.
My question is: How cold should my Kenmore refrigerator get at maximum thermostat setting.. I have been unable to get an answer from Kenmore.
I am no quite sure how old the refrigerator is.

The freezer should be 0 to 5 degrees F.
The fresh food shuld be 38 to 40 degrees F.

I do not know how cold the unit should be on the max setting.
If it is s good unit the above temperatures will be mid scale.

You need to do some troubleshooting.

Does the fan in the freezer run?
Is the compressor running all the time or is it cycling?
You can usually hear it and should be able to feel it vibrating.

If the fan is good and the compressor runs all the time, remove the rear cover in the freezer so you can inspect the evaporator coils.

If they are heavily iced/frosted over you have a defrost cycle.
If there is only frost in one area (usually where the freon enters the coils) you have a sealed system problem.

Thanks cycle operation appears normal for your response. The compressor operation appears normal. It runs for a while then turns off and turns on again after a while. As I stated both the refrigerator compartment and freezer don't get quite cold enough. It almost looks as if the compressor shuts off to soon, bust I have ist at Max????

If the evaporator freezer fan runs and the cycling is OK then odds are that the control thermostat is the problem.
