Model Number: GSS25JEMACC Brand: GE Age: More than 10 years
Model GSS25JEMACC, GE March, 2001
Quit cooling. The Evaporator and Condenser fans both run, lights work. The compressor will not kick on. Pulled off the overload and start relay and run a couple test on compressor. Did a continuity test between all three pins on compressor, meter buzzed on all three combinations, so passed that test. Checked all three pins to ground, no continuity, passed that test. Did an Ohms test, top pin to bottom left 3.6 ohms, top to bottom right 4.7 ohms, bottom left pin to bottom right pin 7.9 ohms. I'm thinking these measurements are within range and the compressor is good, I'm I correct? Tested the overload and relay both for continuity, both pass. The overload rattles when you shake it . No parts fall out and it does not look burnt. Is it still bad if it rattles? Looked at main board, everything looks look, can you test it? What should I try, new overload? Any other test I can run? Looking for help, please....... Ads By Google Related Models |

Thanks for the reply Richappy! I will order the parts today from this site. Still, just curious if I did the testing right, are the readings on the compressor within range, the test good? The compressor is still good right? Thanks again.......great site!
PS: Should I also replace the "Overload" (WR08X10026) while I'm at it, are do you think it is just the start device alone that is the problem? Last edited by dclange : 12-12-2012 at 09:37 AM. |

The klixon overload is ok, don't need to change it. The compressor winding resistance readings show they are not blown open and are usefull in determing which is the start and run winding, and nothing else, do not assume they are not burnt or have shorted turns.

Ok, received start device, installed on frig, zip, nothing. Lights and both fans still work, but still no compressor. So not the start device. From reading this forum, I figured take a look at the main board. Front of board looked fine, no burnt marks are anything. Took the two bottom wire harnesses loose from the main board and released the four little pins holding the board on, (left the other four wire harnesses connected) and tilted the board up so I could see the back side of it. Found a burnt solder joint! Looking at the front of the board, it looks like the burnt joint is right under where the compressor relay is mounted to the front of the main board. Just guessing here, but it looks like I need a new board huh?
