Default Simple way to test the circuit board
Model Number: GSS25JFPA WW   Brand: GE   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

I have GE Side by Side refrigerator, the water dispenser stopped working and and then the refrigerator section food gets frozen (but at a higher temperature!), fridger works but frosts develops at the back.

This was happening for a while and I had to manually defrost and then it would work for a couple of months. 6 months back I called a technician and he cleaned up the ice from the coil and changed the thermostat. He also mentioned that the circuit board could be bad but he could not say until he replaces it!

It started happening again so yesterday I looked at this forum and mustered enough courage to open up everything and cleaned up the ice from the defroster, then I tested the thermostat and the heater with an ohm meter and both seems to be okay. Checked two fridge thermistor and they seem to be okay too.

Is the circuit board bad? is there any way to check the circuit board before replacing it? I can open the circuit board but could not find any specs on how to check if the defrost timer is working.

Thanks a lot!

GE has not released any info on this board, even repair sites have trouble fixing it.

@jojobar:I think there is a problem in the power supply section of the circuit board of your refrigerator because in GE refrigerators the input power supply to the board is 13.5V and sometimes that causes the failure of components and result in the poor voltage regulation. Moreover, the refrigerator works properly under normal load but after sometimes as the load increases the voltage regulation fails. So you should measure the voltage across pins 2-3 of J4 connector and if it is 13.3V or less then there is a problem in the board.

This is all not true, the power supply is in the board, not generated externally.
