Tape the emitter door back to unblock the beam. Disconnect the power to the machine. Slide the ice maker out and remove the cover and locate holes “T” and “H”. Take a small piece of wire bent in the shape of a U and short “T” and “H” together. Restore power to the machine. Close the freezer door to align the optics and wait 5 seconds. Open the freezer door and see if the ice maker has started a harvest cycle. If not, the ice maker needs to be replaced. If the ice maker has started a harvest cycle, remove the jumper wire and reinstall the ice maker or be prepared to catch the water fill. Close the door and go behind the refrigerator and listen for the water valve to turn on. Immediately disconnect the power after the water fills. Wait 5 seconds and restore power (Make sure the freezer door is closed). Wait 5 seconds and open the freezer door and watch the status LED. 4 pulses repeated once > relay is defective, replace optics. 3 pulses repeated once > relay and optics are good but the ice maker is not being sensed, replace the ice maker. 2 pulses repeated once > optics are defective. Steady light for 5 seconds, all is good

Remove the bucket from the door to get some room. Put a piece of tape on the sensor flapper to hold it down so you won't damage it while removing the ice maker. Remove the ice maker service cover door by spreading the two hinge fingers apart away from the center and the door should lift out of the slot. Remove the screw in the right rear bottom side of the ice maker. After removing the screw that cover should lift up from the rear and just work it out from the rear and you see the electrical harness. On the left track there should be a tab toward the bottom which you need to push up. Push up tab and start working the ice maker towards you pulling it out of the track. Careful with the electrical harness in the back as you're pulling out. Disconnect the electrical plug by lifting the clip on the plug. Remove the side cover on the side module by pulling off. Remove the bottom shield by removing the 3 screws on the bottom. To install reverse the order as it came out.

So I understand, once I find those holes and short them out, the ice maker itself is not attached to anything, correct?

Your ice maker probably doesn't have a cover:

Rick, Really appreciate your time.:

1. with jumper in place, no light at all
2. removed jumper and get a series of 2 blinks that repeat without stopping

So do I need both an ice maker and optics?

Is this a DIY job or should I call in the experts?

You may not have to replace the optics. try just the ice maker

I recv'd new ice maker and need help on 2 fronts: 1. how does the electric pull apart? I've tried holding tabs and pulling and it won't budge
2. The old door doesn't seem to fit new maker but the maker is same size, what have I forgotten?

this is the same Kitchen Aid fridge

I have no idea what door you're referring to. Are you trying to disconnect the wire harness from the ice maker or the ice maker from the refrigerator? Maybe take a picture of what you're trying to do.
