My whirlpool clothes wash machine does not spin anymore. It is a front load. When it gets to a cycle when it is supposed to spin. It makes a faint lunge and then does nothing. Any tips on how to troubleshoot? This happens on all of the different wash cycles (whites, colors, timed, delicate, etc)

Is it Whirlpool or Frigidaire?

If it's made by Frigidaire, remove the rear panel and the drive belt. Check how freely the tub and the motor are moving in both directions.

Turn the water off to the washer. Run the washer on spin cycle. Post the results.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Parts for Frigidaire GLTF1670AS0 Washer - AppliancePartsPros.com

Sorry for the confusion. It is a Frigedaire. I'll pull the back off tomorrow and post. Thanks

Turned the water off and pulled the top off. The belt is still attached. With the belt attached I am able to reach down and spin it freely in both directions. I am guessing that this shows that the tub is not bound up by something and the motor is not locked. (I know this doesn't follow your instructions above. It will take a bit of doing to get the washer out so I can pull the back off. Just wanted to get you the information I have to date.)

With the water disconnected, I put it in spin cycle. There are some clicks and purrs, but no action until it finally shuts itself off thinking its the end of the run.

Hope this helps. Thank you very much for working with me on this.

Don

Hi Don,

The above information does not help much. You have to run the washer with the drive belt off to see how the motor will perform with no load. The next step is to check the motor itself. That means you have to move the washer out of the cabinet anyway.
