Model Number: 198.8131513 Brand: Kenmore Age: More than 10 years
My freezer is only cooling to 44F. One corner very quickly frosts over and accumulates large amounts of frost. I checked the lid seal and it's good. I bypassed the thermostat and that made no difference. I defrosted the freezer and that made no difference. Is there anything other than a costly repair of a major part (compressor, etc) that may be wrong here?

Very likely the problem is that the sealed system is low on Freon. You may want to hire a certified technician for more exact diagnosis.
