Exclamation Saddle Valve shooting water but fridge dispensing none
Model Number: gz25fsrxyy5   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: Less than 1 year

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

Just bought a new whirlpool 4 door French door refrigerator. When it was delivered it was also supposed to come with installation. I also got the icemaker connection kit copper tubing. The delivery guy said he could not install my kit because the only thing coming from the wall was a capped off copper pipe. Another words I am ice/water ready but needed a valve. We looked at the kit and the saddle valve did not have a pin on it, the instructions said to hand drill a ¼ inch hole in the copper pipe then fit the saddle valve over it and connect the line. After viewing several videos on installing a saddle valve with a pin and talking with the delivery guy we both agreed home depot for a saddle valve with a pin would be best bet. Now I am just moving back to my home from a 7 month flood repair so a ¼ hole in a water pipe seems like a BIG hole with lots of trouble in the future, so I got the part, followed all directions, turned the pin hooked up the line and when I opened the valve for water to flow to the fridge the saddle valve is shooting waster instead. There is water creeping up the line of the fridge when I try to dispense water but none come out into the glass. Do these new fridges really need a hole that big???? As of now the fridge is off in the middle of the kitchen, the water is off and I don’t know what to do. HELP!!!!

Either one will work but the the valve that requires you drill a hole is a much better way to go. I've run into problems with the self piercing saddle valve with the rubber gasket getting caught in the hole after a while. If you're using the self piercing type, make sure you get the rubber gasket on the right way. Tighten it onto the copper water line. Connect your supply line using some teflon tape. Screw the valve all the down, clockwise and then back it out all the way or you won't get any water.

I did everything as you posted, I had used the pin valve. The problem is now the water is coming out of the top of the twist valve.

to be continued......

Ok gave HD a call and he said to tighten the nut just below the twist valve for the pin an WAA LAAAA it stopped the little waterfall. Now the copper pipe is leaking instad. So here is my question, the fridge has a 1/4 in 5 ft hose that came attached to the back with the right fittings. Can I just attach that right to the saddle? do I really need a copper or plastic tubing? I can still pull the fridge out and get behind it freely without them. (and no I am not running any lines thru cabinets or underground) the end of my copper pipe sits at the wall where the fridge would normally go.

Shouldn't be a problem.

Big thanks...tightened the little nut under the turn valve & connected the 1/4 inch threaded hose..no leaks...got the air out of the line & dumped 2 1/2 gallons of water...looking good. waited an hour to move the fridge back (just in case of a leak) now 24 hours to dump the ice and my kitchen is a better place to live....Thanks a million.

Now off to replace my washing machine
