I have a Kitchenaid refrigerator, model number KTRF22KTAL00. Over the past few days it has started to trip the GFI in my kitchen. The only time it would trip is when we opened the door. We removed the light switch and that stopped the GFI from tripping. We purchased a new switch and replaced it, however the problem continued. We have no idea what to do with it, any ideas?

Take it off the GFI and use a regular outlet or replace the GFI with a regular outlet.

The pro's recomend to not use a ground fault outlet on a fridg, too many internal places for a leakage to ocurr that are impossable to fix.

I would try it on a non GFI receptacle first.
if using an extension cord use one as short as possible amd make sure it is a 3 prong.

If it then trips the breaker in your electrical panel you have a short somewhere in the wiring for the lights.
