Hi, My Maytag side by side refrigerator went completely dead yesterday except the lights inside the frig and the freezer were still on.
Everything melted and I could not hear any sound coming from it. I left it plugged and when I woke up this morning it was running normally. There was no power outage in the house.this happened a week ago as well Do you have any explanation? Thanks!

Could be you were is a defrost cycle.
This shuts off the compressor and the fans.
It usually lasts about 30 minutes and the defrost time is always the same.
But there is a defrost thermostat clipped onto the evaporator coils, it opens just above freezing. So if all the ice/frost has melted off the coils, it should open killing power to the defrost heater and then the defrost cycle continues but without the heater.
Perhaps this thermostat is n ot opening so you are getting too much heat into the freezer compartment.

Could also be the timer is sticking in the defrost mode.
