read many of your posts on this subject but, doesn't seem to be getting as cold as it use to be. fan and condenser are clean. Thought maybe it was the defrost timer but am unable to locate it to over ride it. have they changed what use to be the defrost timer to a circuit board or is it called something different now? The evap fan sounds strong. Fridge side is on the max setting. use to be the would freeze things in the fridge side.

Could it be the control board? thermostat?

I have seen posts saying if you replace the control board you have to replace the fan too and visa versa. id this true?

This unit uses a defrost control board (Item 6 in the Control Parts section)

You may want to check the section temperatures. Freezer should be 0 to 5 degrees F, fresh food should be close to 40 degrees F.
Could be either.
If the compressor is on all the time then a defrost problem is most likely.
If the compressor is cycling as normal then it could be the main control thermostat (Item 9 in Control Parts section)

Defrost Troubleshooting
First remove the evaporator cover in the freezer so you can see the coils.
Do not let them de-ice.

If yes.
Manually force a defrost cycle, see the tech sheet. When the fans and compressor turn off, you are in defrost.
Now check the defrost heater to see if it is on.
Be careful you do not want to burn your fingers.
If the heater is on then the defrost board (Item 6 in Control Parts section) needs replacing.

If not on.
Unplug the unit.
Remove the wire for one side of the heating element (Item 33 in Unit Parts section ) from the wiring and measure it for continuity, usually around 20 ohms or so.

If the heater is OK
Remove one wire to the defrost thermostat and measure it, should be 0 ohms when frozen. Note that it opens just above freezing so must be frozen to check it. Also inspect it, if it is bulged at all replace it even if it measures OK.
I could not find it in the parts breakdown but the unit should have one and it will be clipped onto the evaporator coils. The parts folks at AppliancePartsPros can probably find it for you.

If both the above are OK then odds are the defrost board is toast.
Best way to test this is a live test to see if you have 120 volts across the heater/defrost thermostat combo.

No this is for GE units that use a control board and a DC fan.
