refrigerator works for several hours,thaws,works,repeat
Model Number: frs26kr4cqo Brand: Frigidaire Age: 5 - 10 years
Refrigerator and freezer thawed yesterday. We cleaned all coils and cooled the compressor. Plugged in and it worked long enough to make ice twice, then it thawed again. After it thawed it started to freeze again and made ice twice again and then thawed. It is working on a 3rd repeat now. What is going on?
Both refrigerator & freezer gets warm. Condenser fan is working.  Ads By Google Related Models

Is the condenser/compressor fan running? Is the evaporator/freezer fan running? If all are off then you may be in a defrost cycle. The spec sheet says that it is 24 minutes long and every 6 to 72 hours. The occurrence varies but the 24 minutes always remains the same. Once the ice/frost has melted off the evaporator coils the defrost thermostat ((Item 21 in the System Parts section) is supposed to open killing power to the heating element. Perhaps it is not opening and you are getting too much heat in the freezer compartment. At room temperature the thermostat should be infinite ohms.
