Tonight we smelled a plastic/electrical burning smell in the kitchen and I have figured out it is the capacitor on our fridge. Other details: behind the fridge needed to be vaccumed, as did the fan area and condensor area once I removed the back panel (though it didn't seem too bad...). The fan was running and the top of the condensor was very hot (almost didn't want to keep my hand on top). After I clean everything I plugged it back in and saw a little smoke come from the capacitor. I unplugged the fridge again and removed the capacitor and smelled it - that was the plastic burning smell we smelled earlier. Not sure how to proceed at this point. Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you.

I assume your fridg. temperatures are ok. If the capacitor plugs in the start device, that'a a run capacitor WR62X79. Should replace it soon as it adds running torque to the motor to prevent stall.

Yes the fridge temp was OK before I unplugged (left it unplugged and took out the food last night). Capacitor plugs into Overload part "735" (not sure if that is the same as the "start device" you mentioned). If yes, I will replace WR62X79 and see if that works. Thank you.

Yes, the overload contains the start device.
