I have a Whirlpool stand alone ice maching. I just replaced the thermostat going to the evaporator. Now it keeps on freezing and not going into the harvest mode. I checked the water valve before I bought any part. Why I bought the thermostat - I could not get the same thichness of ice or same harvest time. I tried to adjust the screws cut in/out but it would not adjust. It is getting cold after a few minutes and I know that the comnpressor was working. Any suggestions

Hi.

If the ice plate getting too thick and the machine doesn't goes into defrost you need to check the thermostat you just replaced. If it's mounted and connected properly (should make perfect contact with evaporator plate) possibly it's bad.

Well I have it making ice but I do not think that the long metal thermostat line is really touching real good on the plate. Someone put the bracket in the front of the evaporator and I think it should be mounted differently. I have some of the tube on the evaporator but nothing is really holding it there. It is making ice real slow and a lot of it is melting before it gets through the cutting grid. Tomorrow I plan on trying to attach the thermostat tube better to the bottom of the evaporator. Any suggestions how to connect it to the bottom of the evaporator would be helpful. Should the tube be across the botton of the evaporator or bundled in one bunch? Thank you for your input.

Hi.

There is the holding bracket underneath the evaporator.
Use the sand paper to clean the surface in that area and make sure the thermostat sensor bulb is looped and held in the bracket touching the clean evaporator.

The holdoing bracket is mounted on the very front of the evaporator. Has one screw and about a one inch by 3 inch plate that has a hole where a screw attachs to the bracket. The line is between the plate and the bracket. It is touching the evaporator. The bracket looks like it has been glued with some substance on the very front of the evaporator. The ice maker has been going for about 20 hours and have not made a 1/2 bin of ice. I will make sure that the sensor bulb is touching the evaporator and sand the bottom of the evaporator where it will be touching. I appreciate the information and will let you know how it works. Thank you.

Last night I took apart again and made sure that the sensor bulb was touching the bottom of the evaporator. Still the bin is not half full of ice yet. This is really getting to me. It cycles and sounds great but just not making a lot of ice. In a day and half the bin should be full of ice???

Thank you for any suggestions

Hi.

If the water supply is normal then most likely it's a sealed system problem. Clean the condenser, check the motor.
If all this checks OK - you may need a repairman to look at the sealed system.

It is a normal day but - the ice macker was doing pretty good but now this morning I can get nothing. Only get the cleaning phase to work with no water input??? Will not get cold and will not even make a noise when turned on. It is getting electric because the pump works on the cleaning phase. Any suggestions

Hi.

Check the thermostat and selector switch. Please post the model number.
