The overload and start relay devices on the unit seem to have shorted out. One of the electrical prongs have also partially melted and so connect fit without filing it down. The compressor on the unit did seem to work. Can we file the prong down or do we have to replace the entire compressor?

Hi.

Do anything you can to make it work. Do not apply force to the prong you may brake the hermetic seal around it.

I use a dremmel grinder to grind down the pin to a cylindrical shape. First, verify none of thje compressor pins are not shorted to ground.
