have a roper fridge that wasnt cooling properly thought it was a deforst isssue so let it defrost over night. upon start up i heard the compressor start it cooled for about two hours then stop i tryed to get the compressor to start up again no luck. thinking it is stuck in defrost i replaced the timer apon start up the compresstor kicked in but it didn't cool now i don't hear the compressor kick in any more. could i be looking at the start relay?

HI.

If the evaporator fan running check for 1250VAC at the compressor.
If the proper voltage is present check the compressor's pins for continuity between them and the ground.
Compressor checks out fine - replace the relay/overload.

i checked out fan runs 120 volts at compressor no continuity between ground and compressor continuityof 10oms between the pins my question is before i order a overload is there a test for the over load , i did notice that the capacitor was rattleing but so does the overload

If you are absolutely sure that the capacitor is rattling - replace it too.
