I purchased a used GE ZDI15CBBD ice machine and am curious if it is functioning correctly.

Problem 1: Once the ice machine is turned on, it makes ice fine for several hours, then at some point there is no water in the reservoir and the pump makes a whoosing noise sucking air. Is this noraml under any circumstance? Does it pump all the water out at any point to replace with fresh water?

Problem 2: It seems to be making too much ice. The ice is well above the ice sensor on the side of the ice bin and almost to the cutting grid, however it never seems to make so much ice that it reaches the top. Does that sound normal?

I'd appreciate any info you might be able to provide.
