Dear Forum,

My GE fridge stopped working. The compressor has stopped but the fan is working. It does make a clicking sound after a few seconds of switching it on. I changed the start relay as well as the overload capacitor, but it didn' t start.

there is no continuity between earth and any of the 3 terminals on the compressor. The ohms readings between the terminals are 4.7, 5.3 and 10. They add to a perfect 10, but I am not sure if starter coil resitance and the winding resitance should be that close.

Do I need to junk it?

Thanks a lot !

Your compressor is seized, or the windings are burnt. Ohm readings will not show burnt windings, only amprobe will show compressor drawing high current.
