I have no idea if this caused the problem, but it seemed to start when the freezer door was left slightly ajar one night.
The next day I noticed that the ice maker was no longer functioning, so I removed it to take a look. It looked fine and I thought that the open door might have caused some melting/freezing problems so I thawed it out, let it dry out and re-installed it.
It seemed to want to work as it started to cycle when I put the stop arm down, so I let it run. During the evening I actually heard ice being dropped so I thought I was in good shape.
The next morning however revealed that although it had in fact been making some ice, it had also allowed way too much water and the ice bin had plenty of water/ice in the bottom and as did the freezer floor.
I stopped it and cleaned up a bit, and then retarted it to watch a cycle. It seemed that it went through the cycle OK and harvested the ice that had been made and then filled the tray with water properly. I came back 5 minutes later to see that there was a bunch of water in the ice bin and it was cycling again. I'm guessing that it just wants to keep cycling/water filling or something like that without waiting for the ice to made and harvested. The end result is an ice maker that overflows water into the bin and then the freezer.
Do I need a new unit?
Thanks,
-Alan
