Remove the back cover that has the ice build up and melt all the ice of the coils. More than likely the defrost heater caused the ice to build up. You can check the heater with an ohmmeter and if it is open replace it. Refrigerator repair guide

I tested the fridge with an old tester plugged in the wall/fridge plugged in the tester. Current was there so heater is good ?

Yes, yours is a 2002 or newer model.

I don’t quite follow the test you are saying you did.

I am assuming you just did an amp test, am I correct?

If so it doesn’t prove the heater is bad or good. Unless you know the refrigerator was in defrost and the current flow was relatively high (8-10 amps or so). Even then it wouldn’t necessary prove it.

What would u try to replace 1st ? Defrost thermostat or one of the 2 sensor temp ? Looks like I'll save money even if I replace both. Thanks

The defrost heater would be the first thing I would try unless you tried that already and it didn’t work or tested it with an ohmmeter.

The next thing would be the senor.

There are pictures on this page that will help identify faulty sensors and defrost thermostats. GE Refrigerator Repair Guide

OK , I have searched my model # Gss22ifpaww. Models with the same model # except for the last 3 digits pop up and take a #ah1993872 defrost heater. I call GE and get a #wr51x1053 from they're people. Trying to see if thats the same part with different #'s depending on vendor. GE is more expensive to order from if so. Thanks for any help
