Default Subzero 550 icemaker keeps jamming

Yes I know its 15+ years old, but its an awesome fridge.

My problem is the ice maker keeps jamming, and I figured out its ice getting stuck between the fingers during the dump cycle. and wouldn't be such an issue except once and a while it jams in the fill cycle (solenoid valve open) and floods the floor.

heres what I think is wrong. I noticed the icecubes are kinda thin and if they turn sideways while the fingers are fliping them out, they get stuck in the lower guard thing and the fingers jam against it. And as I said before sometimes it happens right when the fill valve is open. I have found an adjustment on the side of the unit when the cover is off. I believe this to be a fill adjustment, to change the duration the valve is open. my question is, which way and how far do I turn it to increase water supply?

I think if the cubes were thicker, they wouldn't fit between the guards, and thus wouldn't jam.

It sounds more like you have a water pressure issue to the fridge. If the cubes are coming out small and/or hollow then you'll have to figure out why your water pressure is too low. I wouldn't mess around with the fill adjustment on the ice maker.

If your water line is coming directly off of a saddle valve I'd suspect that first. The rubber grommet in there tends to swell after a few years and limits the water pressure. If that is ok then you may have a dirty/clogged inlet valve.

Check these first before doing anything to the icemaker.

I guess I should have given a few more specifics....

The water supply to my ice maker is through my Culligan reverse osmosis (RO)filter. the pressure is lower, and I don't think I can turn it up. but yes, I am getting thin, and sometimes hollow cubes.

Ive had jamming issues for as long as Ive had the fridge installed, but when it flooded the kitchen, that was when I decided to figure this out. I didnt mind knocking the cubes out once and a while. The old fridge (ironically was only 5 years old, but wasnt built in) worked fine with the RO system, and the icemaker looked the same, other than a selector for high and low output. and strangely enough this one still makes ice faster. (when not stuck)

I'm on rural over-chlorinated nasty water poisoned with fluoride, so if I cant hook it up to the RO system, then I just wont use the ice maker, but if I can make it work together, that would be wonderful.

Hi.

Try CCW for a 1/2 turn at the time.

Thank you.

Maybe get a booster pump for your R.O system.

Thank you, I tried CCW, and already at 1/2 turn, the hollow cubes have stopped. Im going to give it another and see what happens, they still seem kinda slender.
