Our fridge started warming up in both the freezer and cooling sides. At first we thought it was the evaporator fan and pulled it out to check it. The terminals were welded together and ripped apart when we removed the fan. So we got a new one. Fan still didn't work so then we replaced the ADC board. Still did not work. Checked the freezer door switch and it was ok then tested the evaporator defrost thermostat, no continuity cold or hot. since it would be a week before the part came, and we didn't want to lose our food, a friend of my son said we could just connect the two wires together and the unit would run until the part came, it just wouldn't defrost. Sure enough the evaporator fan started to work and the unit started cooling down from 78 deg. and in three hours it was at 50 deg. But then it stopped and went back up to 70 deg. Is that a sign that something else is wrong? What does the defrost thermostat actually do? Does it have to be in there for the unit to work?
