Model Number: EL7ATRRM507 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years
Purchased a Whirlpool Gold Stainless stand alone Refrigerator Model # EL7ATRRM507 back in 2007.
Started not staying on its Temp., would have to play with the controls to keep it cool about two weeks ago. Less the 48 hours ago it stopped cooling all together. Sounds like it is still running, just not cooling. Does anyone know where I could find a repair manual for this model? Ads By Google Related Models |

I checked the compressor, it vibrates and is warm, but sometimes gets hot.I also checked the evaporator temperature (62 degrees). The defrost timer appears to be working...i put the timer in defrost mode, checked the defrost heater and heater cut off, when I tapped the cut-off switch, sparks came out of the connector and tripped the circuit breaker. I reset the breaker, went back to check other components and noticed no light in fridge. I think the sparks might have damaged the thermostat sensor tube (I jumpered thermostat wires and fridge started running). Is there any way to test the thermal overload switch for the compressor?

Your other problems are not important to diagnose the compressor. Pull the back freezer panel out. If you can get the compressor running for just a few minutes and little frost gets on the coils, you have a bad compressor/ and,or refrigerant leak.
Be aware, the compressor sometimes can vibrate a bit, but not run. If the condenser coils are at room temperature, that could be an indication the compressor is not running. If so, a burnt wire may have damaged the compressor windings.

this refrigerator has no freezer. The compressor vibrates, but is not cooling (temperature at top of compressor is 88 degrees) condenser coils are room temp. temperature inside unit gets down to 63 degrees

This fridg operates as a chiller, coils never get below freezing. Gauges and amprobe would confirm a bad compressor. Might want to get it purged and re-charged,or try a new compressor start device to verify compressor is just not stalled and vibrating.
