Lost cooling in both refrigerator and freezer. The condensor fan spins slowly, the compressor is hot. There is a clicking sound every minute or so which appears to come from the compressor. The condensor coils are cold. The problem has been happening for some time. I've noticed that the freezer door has often been hot. Is this a motherboard or compressor issue?

If the condenser coils and the compressor is hot, you might have a slow condensing fan motor. To confirm, measure the stabilized freezer temperature before and after placing a cooling fan on the compressor and condenser.

richappy: Thanks but I misspoke. I meant to say that the consendor fan is running very slow now and the condesnor (coils) are cold but the compressor is hot.

Is the compressor vibrating?

It seems to be unless but it's not very strong. After letting everything cool to the touch, I plugged it back in with similar results. After some time the compressor become fairly warm and the condesning coils stay cold.

Pry off the compressor start device, if it rattles when shaken, it's bad. Order it here AP4300623
