I have a Kenmore Elite Trio that is approximately 5 years old. I have had problems with it from about the first year. Occasionally it stops cooling and you can hear the compressor trying to kick on but it shuts off right away and the temperature starts of the freezer starts to go up. It makes a clicking sound for a few seconds and then shuts off. We have replaced the overload switch about 5 times, and have vacuumed all areas to allow for correct airflow as required in the manual.. Recently, this only works for a short time (have replaced the switch three times in about 5 months) and then the problem starts all over again. Is there something else we should be checking? The compressor is hot to the touch, there is also some sort of liquid in the small tray at the rear of the fridge.

Hi.
If the condenser fan motor is running then most likely the compressor is going bad. Check the amp draw if you can. The normal rating is on the compressor's tag.
Thank you.
Simon.
