Received a freezer from a friend that had stopped working. Checked it and found the compressor to be bad. Replaced the compressor with a new one but unit is not cooling properly. The freezer does not get cold enough. This is a not frost free. The shelves are the evaporator coils. The top two shelves are getting frosty cold, but the other two just get cold not frozen. I have run the unit only a few hours empty but the temp does not seem to get much below 10 degrees on the top shelve. Do I need to put some items in it to test it? Why are the other two shelves not frosty? I feared I might have an obstructed cap tube so I opened it up again, cut off about 2 inches of cap tube, which was clear, replaced the drier again, but it did not seem to help. The heat exchanger in the walls of the freezer seems to get pretty hot. The discharge line on the compressor and the compressor are very hot. The drier and cap tube are warm. Also the charge said 227gr/s of 134a which I believe means about 8 oz which I put in. I also tried adding additional charge, but it did not help cooling, just caused more heat on the heat exchanger. What might be the problem? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Did you vacumm down the fridg. before filling with refrigerant?
If so, you just may have a evaportor leak.

Do you have the correct compressor for a freezer and the same hp? If so, I would suck out all the refrigerant and re-charge, you may have contaminated refrigerant.
