Default No ice/water dispensing
Model Number: psc23ngpabb   Brand: GE   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

Icemaker is making ice ok..but water and ice will not dispense through the door. Tried replacing the control panel on front of freezer door but it did not help. Problem at first was intermittent but now is almost present all the time. Green led indicator on panel at first would go on/off when paddle was pushed to dispense ice/water...but does not display now. Could it be the sloenoid mounted behind the control panel inside the freezer door? If not what else is left besides the switch behind the paddle which clicks (appears o.k.) when the paddle is depressed

Sounds like the problem is a bad main control board on the back of the refrigerator.

- The main control board Part number: AP4436216

Part number: AP4436216

Here are the breakdown diagrams for the GE refrigerator Model PSC23NGPABB

do you know how to work a meter? If so... i would set it up for 115v and open up the back of the fridge on the bottom. there is a water valve there right where the hose from the wall comes in. the manual for your fridge will tell you what voltage you are supposed to see accross the leads to the celenoids, (two open and close when you depress the water button on the front of the fridge, the inlet from the wall which lets it go to the filter and the one that diverts it to the water dispenser upon its return from the filter.

check the leads on the celenoids for the proper voltage. i could be wrong but im almost positive that the yellow celenoid is the "water" one if you come up with something silly voltage wise... like 45 then ... you need to replace that water valve.... its a snap and costs like $50.

I have a similar problem.. replaced the water valve, filter, ice maker... and no luck.. the only other things are the board and the wiring harness... i think. anyway... good luck

Thanks Gene:
Although your link to the main control board diagram at the back of the refrigerator would not link, I found the diagram on the web site diagram and parts list. Doesn't look like access to the board or replacement will be too hard. So what function does the solenoid( located in the freezer door behind the touchpad control panel ) have? savery

Sorry for the broken link. It's fixed.

The main purpose for this solenoid is to open the ice door in the dispenser.

Thanks Again Gene:
I see that G.E. had a recall/free replacement on the main control board. Where do I find if my model/serial # was included?

Gene:
Further troubleshooting (based on forum Blog) found 3 pin connector at bottom of freezer door (behind kickplate) corroded. White wire on connector separated from connector...now trying to figure out how to repair/replace female side (door side) of connector with like/matching female connector..cannot get pin out of plastic housing to clamp/solder wire back into it.....

Good news: Three pin connector at bottom of freezer door (behind kick plate) was the problem. White wire had become corroded/broken (possibly due to moisture?). Managed to "worry" the ferrule crimp-on connector pin out from the plastic housing of the female side of the connector and re-attach (re-crimp) the wire into it...hooked everything up..taped over the connector and everything is working now as it should..don't think this G.E. refrigerator is worth the price (2,200 7 yr. ago)

I'm glad you were able to find the problem (which is very hard to diagnose) and fix it with no cost to you. Good job! Thank you for sharing this information with us and good luck with your refrigerator.
