I have a Whirlpool side-by-side that the evaporator fan is intermittantly very noisy. I am making an assumption that there is a problem with the defrost system and the fan is hitting evaporator ice, as at times it appears to work normally. Coincidentally, when the issue starts occuring, ice production from the ice maker drops off to almost nothing.

If I could get some instructions from the experts on diassembly and trouble-shooting I'd sure be grateful. I have the tools. I just don't have the information.

Thanks in advance for any help, Doug

Hi.

Remove 4 screws holding the evaporator cover, release it from the top and slide out.
Check if the evaporator coils are blocked with snow.
If yes - then it's a defrost problem.
If not - replace the evaporator motor.

Please post the results.
