Model Number: 106.59582990 Brand: Whirlpool Age: More than 10 years
been defrosting fridge for 2yrs with hair dryer...evaporator coils build up after different intervals..the intervals change(EG 3days ,5 wks,10days), always changing but the interval usually stayed constant for 4-5 times then would change to a different interval...put in a defrost timer and put the black lead wire over the number 1 terminal on timer(which was the middle of the three isolated terminals on timer)..the directions showed three procedures for the fridge defrost timer and two called for the black lead on the number 1 terminal and one of those two showed identical wiring color to my wiring...the third procedure which showed putting the black lead on terminal number 2 but the wiring shown is a different color so i was reasonably sure that i was right to put black lead wire on terminal number 1..well the fridge still frosts up after new timer install..shud i try puttin the blk lead on terminal two or shud i look at the bi-metal as a possible fix..i don;t think it is def.heater as it does defrost but quits after the above mentioned intervals any help wud be appreciated...thanks,neal

HI.
According the diagram you installed the timer correctly. Check if timer gear is running in both -defrost and freezing.(Thermostat is closed). Check the defrost thermostat, all connectors. Good luck. Post the results. Simon.

Hi.
The bi-metal is a defrost thermostat. Simon.

well,i have the defrost thermostat and took everything apart...when igot to where the wires enter the small plastic connection box which connects to the same size and shape box which is affixed to the back of the freezer wall, i was not able to pull out the wires that i need to pull(the plastic boxes are honeycombed shape just like the old hollywood squares layout and they snap together front to back, they are nine boxes with three boxes in each row)..well i do not want to damage anything so i reconnected everything and will go back to it after i hear from someone on the forum...i'm sure that i have to pull but don't want to be wrong and break it...thanks ,neal

Hi.
There are the 2 locking pins on the side of the connector, just push them in and pull. Simon.

don't know if we are talking about the same thing...i got the two plastic pieces apart, what i need to know is do i pull on the wires to remove them from the plastic boxes, which i guess is sort of a junction box for the connections..it seems that all i need to do is pull the wires for the old defrost thermostat and feed the new ones into it to make the connection...are you saying that pulling on the two clips on the side thatwill separate the two plastic pieces or will that release the wires....thanks,neal

Hi.
OK, Neal. To replace the defrost thermostat you need to splice it in. Use the wire nuts. Thank you. Simon.
