Model Number: DSL26DHWASS Brand: GE Age: 1 - 5 years
Hi all!!!
We have a five year old GE Adora refrigerator, model DSL26DHWASS, that intermittenly stops working. For weeks it'll run fine. Temps normal/as set, making plenty of ice. Then suddenly it'll stop. First indication is it stops making ice and what ice is there will begin to melt. The circulating fan in the freezer is not running either. But all the while I can hear the refrigeration compressor running and the condenser fan running too. So far the way I get it to restart is set the controls to "Turbo Cool' which I believe bypasses the thermostat and I know is meant to quickly cool freshly loaded groceries. After putting it in "Turbo Cool" the circulating fan still take quite a while to come on. Like a couple of hours. Once the fan starts it seems to run fine for few weeks. I know one day it'll just fail to run again at all. I'd like to fix it now before that time is reached. Thanks Ads By Google Related Models |

The problem can be a bad evaporator fan motor or a bad main control board (on the back of the refrigerator). Whichever part is bad, it is recommended by GE to replace both of them.
Before you order the parts, remove the rear panel inside the freezer to determine if the thermistor is wired into the motor plug or not. - The main control board Part number: WR55X10942 - The evaporator fan motor without thermistor Part number: WR60X10185 - The evaporator fan motor with the thermistor Part number: WR60X10074 Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for General Electric DSL26DHWASS REFRIGERATOR W SERIES | AppliancePartsPros.com Gene.

Thanks Gene.
After reading posts on similar failures I was thinking the main control board was going out. And thanks for the tip on replacing the fan motor too. It's funny....the extended warranty ended just before this problem started. That's the way life goes. |
