Model Number: mfi2269vea1 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 1 - 5 years
it started with no lites to control board, changed hv board to restore. added code 1720 to reset. found that the compressor start relay rattled so i replaced it. now it appears to run but not cool. checked winding s of compressor with resistances of r to c 4.2 ohms,s to c 7.4 ohms, and r to s 12.5 ohms. not resistance to case on all contact points. compressor when on does not get hot. condensor, evapoator, and ice maker fans run. evaporator coils do not get cold and the defrost is not hot. from control panel i entered the service code check list, code 101 off,102 runs, 112 and 113 runs 0.0-7.75-12volts,121 -131 toggle,141 temp 79,142 temp 75, 144 temp 86,and 145 temp 75,151-152-153-163-164-165-167-168-171-172-175-182-193 toggle. 182 lites blink.192 off. no changes from default 201-202-203-211-212-213. used 221 to set to default.did not enter service tests, i did record readings.301 ---,308-309 0.0,311 to 317 25.5,318-3119 0.0,321 ---,328-329 0.0, 331 ---,338-339 0.0,341 to 347 ---,348 349 0.0, 351 ---,358 0,359 na,401 na, 501 on. what do think is the fix?

The compressor should get hot and vibrate. If not, you might have a shorted compressor that took out the hv board. Simple, low voltage ohm checks will not determine status. Get a meter and check for voltage to the compressor.

richappy,
using a fluke 83 volt ohm meter and a fluke 33 amp meter i see 123.8 volts accross the black and white wires going to the start relay .o7 amps induced in wire. the compressor feels warmer than 98.6 but not to hot to keep your hand on the compressor and you can here the compressor kick in when apping power. |

Remove the start device, I assume similar to the AP4433935 item and check ohms between the common compressor pin, usually on top and either device input pin, one should read zero ohms, if not, your compressor blew open the internal overload device.

as in my post the winding resistance to common was 4.2 ohms to run and 7.4 ohms to start and 12.5 ohms from start to run. if i had no resistance then a winding would be open and i would not hear the compressor running.

hello richappy.
well i put a second new ptc on compressor with no help. went and put a line tap on the low pressor side to check if there was any coolant. nope -40 inhg reading. added a little r134a to system and it started to get cold and compressor is really hot now. i now read -10 inhg. at 77 dec room temp. what pressure should i read? no clue? compressor is a EMBRACO EGX70HLC i am also pulling 2 amps of current when set to fast cool-6/33. controls set to 0-38dec frezzer/ fridg. what do think? |
