for some reason my the freezer part of my magic chef refrigerator model # CTB1821ARW keeps frosting over completely to the point that it stops working because of all the ice. what could be causing that?

Sounds like the refrigerator is not self defrosting like it should.

Your model refrigerator has four parts to the defrost system.
If your defrost system is not working one of these parts has failed.

1. Defrost heater Part number: 63001387

2. Defrost timer Part number: 63001353

3. Defrost thermostat Part number: 63001388

4. Defrost fuse Part number: 63001052

Hi.

Most likely the problem is with the defrost system.
Inside the fresh food compartment inside the control panel the is the defrost timer.
Locate the opening about the dime size and using the flat screw driver slowly turn the timer's shaft CW until the fridge stops.
In about 15 min. open the freezer and listen to the slight hissing sound of the defrost heater melting the snow.
If nothing happens open the rear cover and check for continuity the defrost thermostat (it must be ice cold), defrost fuse and the heater.
