Model Number: PDF22MFSABB Brand: GE Age: 5 - 10 years
Hey all, thanks for looking for in advance.
I have a GE Profile bottom freezer (pn # pdf22mfsabb) with a production date of May 2005 per the serial #. Whenever the weather hits 65-70 outside the freezer never gets colder than 15-18 degrees regardless of how many times I hit the temp setting located in the fridge. If there's heavy traffic opening the freezer it might even get warmer. The fridge portion might get a few degrees warmer than reccommended but not too bad. I'm trying to figure out if this is the popular mother board issue that caused the recall on this model. i know this model # was involved but the recall listed units produced in October of 2005, 5 months after mine was. What do you all think? I would like to narrow it down before I go ordering parts. Thanks again - T Ads By Google Related Models |

Hi,
I would see if the condenser coil needs to be vacuumed out first.

Thanks for the pre req. i just took the back cover off and inspected the condenser assembly. Amazingly it looked pretty clean and dust free, it didn't need much vaccuming. Is it possible that I'm not seeing the dust and I need one of those brushes made to clean it? As of now the freezer is stuck @ 12 degrees.

Unfotunately, you will need to take the back freezer panel off to check the frost pattern. Describe the pattern, total, heavy frost, or partial. If partial, is there heavy frost on the bottom only, or on just the right side.

Unfortunately is an excellent word to describe the need to take that panel off...not fun!
So the freezer was at 20 degrees when I took the cover off. There was 0 frost on any of the coil. The only thing I noticed was that the area with the highest amount of ice (which was melting rapidly) was on the lower left side. Thanks for the help, can't wait to get my freezer back! |

If you can, leave the cover off and defrost all the coils, then run with the cover off, then tell us if all the coils get a light frost. If ok, I would replace the evaporator thermistor AP3185407, probably causing incomplete defrost.
Replace the cover and measure the stabilized freezer temperature, should get below 5 degrees.
