Our Whirlpool refrigerator just started making a lound humming noise. When you turn of the temp dial off and then back on, it stops for a short period of time and then the noise returns. how can I determine if it is the fan motor or the compr?

Hi.

If you pull out the refrigerator and remove the bottom cover you'll see the compressor.
From there you can determine if that what is making noise.

Thank you for the quick response.
What is more likely the cause of the noise the starter part or the compr?
My hope is the starter peice ($$$), is there a rist of it going out and causing it to quick running in the time it may take for me to get the new part? or burning out any thing else?
