Model Number: 25378821890 Brand: Kenmore Age: 5 - 10 years
I have an older Kenmore refrigerator with an ice maker in the freezer. I've never had the ice maker hooked up and it started making noise the other day. I pulled the cover plate on the ice maker unit and disconnected the power to the motor (noisy). This stopped that, but I don't think I got the metal arm and spring put back together property when I reinstalled the cover plate. the pump started making all sorts of noise, which was new. I disconnected the power to the water pump (if that's what it is, it has a hose from it to the ice maker). This stopped making noise now.
After both being unplugged, I heard a big popping sound. I'm not sure if it came from the fridge or not. But I couldn't get the fan to kick in after adjusting the settings to "coldest", with the door open. I reattached the pump thing and the power to the ice maker and then the fan came back on. I'd like to disable or completely remove the ice maker, since I don't have water in this area. How can I do this, so it doesn't affect the rest of the fridge? I'm new to this forum, but love what I've read so far. Thanks for the help with this problem. Ads By Google Related Models |

Disconnect the screws that hold the IM to the side wall and unplug the harness of the IM which plugs into the refrig. If water wasn't hooked up to it, and the arm was mis-installed, it would activate the water valve and cause it to make noise. On the model you have listed the IM has no impact on the operation of the refrig with it removed.
