my refrigerator compressor is staying on indefinitely unless i turn the freezer control to 0, the fresh food side is frozen 26 degrees F. i turned both settings all the way down and the comp, shut off. and then reset them to around 3 "which is just below factory". now all temps have stabilized and it is operating normally. im not sure how cool the freezer was when it was acting up!

This is the second time this has happened, it ran all night and destroyed all the fresh food.

i have great electrical diagnostic skills in automotive fields and the fluke meter to check components with, i just need some help to be lead in the right direction.

i will post freezer temps as soon as it starts acting up again.

is there anything specifically i should look for when its acting up, and or common issues with this fridge,

also a better copy of the wiring schematic than the one thats available on this site

Would be nice to know the freezer temperature as it will effect the fresh food temperature. It should be between 0 and 5 degrees F.

Your fresh food temperature depends where you put the thermometer.

If lower down in the compartment check that the evaporator fan is running.
Although I could not see one in the parts breakdown, there is usually a vent in the side walls between the compartments. If there is make sure that it is clear on both sides.
These checks are to be sure that it is not just cold air settling in the fresh food side and causing the freezing.

As you can see the fresh food damper (Item 115 in Section 2) controls the amount of cold air entering the fresh food side.
This in turn is controlled by a thermostat (Item 21 in Section 2).
It would be at the top of my list as they can stick either open or closed on occasion.

so it seems as though my freezer is the problem, the dampener door seems to be operating correctly and closing, but the compressor continues to run and cool the freezer! -7 at the center of the wall. the interior wall that faces the freezer on the fresh side is 26 therefore causing the freezing of the fresh side!

so is there a test i can perform, to discover if its the control switch, or a temp sensor or some other component? i have a fluke 88 and the know how to use it!

also how does the freezer control detect the temp on the freezer side

so it seems the freezer control has a built in themistor correct?

so it would seem to me that the freezer control sends a signal to the adaptive defrost module on pin E2, therefore telling the module to turn on the compressor and condeneser fan which are running all the time.
so what i need to know is the signal on pin e2 a power or ground signal and is it actually switched by the freezer control.,,,,,you can refer to the diagram that denman posted for me

You have already done that because switching it off shuts the compressor off.

Thermostat 21 A in Section 2 controls the freezer temperature.
Not a thermistor it is a mechanical thermostat with the end of the capillary tube sensing the temperature.

It switches in the line (120 volts)
Since turning the control to off shuts the compressor off I would say that the control is sticking closed and needs replacing.
