Model Number: FRS3R4EB0 Brand: Frigidaire Age: 5 - 10 years
Back in March my fridge began making a buzzing sound and not cooling well. I checked this forum and it was suggested that I try unplugging the unit. I tried this and it worked. About a week later it began buzzing more frequently but was still cooling.I checked the start relay by shaking it as suggested and all seemed well. When I plugged everything back in the fridge began working again. Several weeks ago it began its buzzing again, this time I ordered a new start relay thinking that the old one may possibly be the cause. I unplugged everything replaced the start relay and when I plugged it back in everything worked as it should with no buzzing. I left it this way for 24hrs and then on a hunch I replaced the new part with the old one. No Buzzing???? I ran with the old part for several days with no incidence of buzzing. Three days ago it began buzzing again every four minutes for about 10 seconds and the freezer began to thaw. No matter what I did unplug/swap parts/I was unable to stop the buzzing. Thinking it must be the compressor I called the local repair shop who informed me it would cost $607.00 parts and labour to replace. This did not make economical sense so I have ordered a new fridge. I emptied the old fridges freezer of all perishables and replaced with blocks of ice, turned the thermostat off for the freezer section only and running like this to keep the fridge contents cool until the new fridge arrives. Today out of curiosity I turned the freezer back on and it began working again.
Does this still sound like a compressor problem? Could it be something else cheaper to replace then the compressor? The new fridge will arrive tomorrow. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Ads By Google Related Models |

Hi.
Have you ever determine where exactly that buzzing sound comes from? If from the compressor, than get a new frige, if from the fresh food compartment top left - than you have a bad defrost control board. Defrost control Part number: 5303918476 Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for Frigidaire FRS3R4EB0 Frigidaire/refrigerator | AppliancePartsPros.com Thank you. Post the results. Thanks for the reply.
As soon as I turn the thermostat back on for the freezer section the buzzing starts, 10 secs every four minutes. Felt the compressor and that seems to be the source of the buzzing. Every once in a while it will temporarily start working again but only after I have turned the freezer thermostat off for a period of time and then back on. Is this the normal symptom of a failing compressor? |
