Default Starter problem?
Model Number: MZD2665HEB   Brand: Maytag   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

My fridge has been dealing with the dreaded humms and then the overload clicks. At this point the fridge does cool at all. If I keep it plugged in it will try to turn over but then click after about 15 seconds. Every few minutes it will try again. I purchased from this site a new starter relay with capacitor but when I switch the units out nothing happens. No hum, no click with the new starter. Is it possible that I have a defective new unit? I did the continuity test on the compressor and checked each prong for shorts to the exterior and I think everything looked okay. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Part purchased from this site was a 67005560

Check across the blue and white wires to the compressor, if no voltage, the adaptive defrost board AP4010220 may be blown due to a compressor short.
If ok, Unplug unit and measure resistance across the blue and white wires to the compressor, should be around 3-4 0hms.

richappy,

Thank you for the response. I tested as you stated and there is 122 volts going from the blue and white wires. The resistance test came out way off though. I was reading 84 ohms. I am a multimeter newbie so I hope I tested correctly but all the rest of the tests I did came out fine. Does this mean a likely issue with the adaptive defrost board or is that tied to some other problem?

You need to test the voltage to the compressor with the plug in the start device. If still 115 volts, unplug fridg, unplug the connector to the start device and measure ohms between the spade terminals of the start device, should be about 2 to 3 ohms

Alright, start device is plugged into the compressor with the capacitor. With the blue and white wires unplugged I tested across the spade terminals and got 2.7 ohms. I am not sure about checking voltage with everything plugged in since there is nothing exposed? What is the best way to check the voltage?

Thanks for the quick response.

As I said, you plug the fridg plug into the start device, monitor the voltage to the plug. If no voltage, probably a blown adaptive defrost board.
